Michelle Straughn – Executive Director
Michelle Straughn brings 25 years of senior housing experience and a strong background in business operations to Southern Pines. She began her career as a Business Office Coordinator and advanced to Business Office Manager, gaining a well-rounded understanding of community operations along the way.
Michelle partners closely with department leaders to ensure seamless collaboration and smooth day-to-day operations. Her hands-on approach and commitment to teamwork help create a supportive environment for both staff and residents.
Outside of work, Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and planning trips to the beach, the mountains, and Disney destinations. Those who know her best will tell you that family is everything to her — and she believes in cherishing every moment together.
Latoya Flowers – Assistant Executive Director and Memory Care Director
Latoya Flowers brings 27 years of healthcare experience to her role as Assistant Executive Director and Memory Care Director. Since beginning her career in 1999, she has dedicated her life’s work to compassionate service, strong leadership, and quality care.
With extensive experience in Skilled Nursing and Memory Care, Latoya specializes in supporting residents living with cognitive challenges through thoughtful, person-centered care. She believes memory care is not just about meeting clinical needs, but about preserving dignity, honoring life stories, and supporting families during vulnerable moments.
Latoya is known for her empathy, integrity, and commitment to making a difference. Healthcare is more than a profession to her — it is her calling.
She holds certifications as a Senior Living Sales Counselor, Alzheimer’s Association Facilitator, Executive Director, Behavioral Technician, National Council of Dementia Practitioners member, and Georgia Certified Activity Director.
Outside of work, Latoya enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, fishing, reading, and traveling.
Jules Hill – Director of Sales and Marketing
Meet Jules, the Sales and Marketing Director at Southern Pines, whose passion for people shines through in everything she does. She is committed to helping prospective residents find more than just a place to live in. She helps them discover a place to truly call home. By taking the time to learn everyone’s story, Jules thoughtfully guides families through every step of the journey, ensuring a transition that feels smooth, comfortable, and even exciting.
Outside of work, Jules’ heart for care extends to the animal world. She volunteers with local shelters, helping adoptable pets find loving homes, and she proudly cares for her own special-needs pets — a role she considers both a privilege and a calling. Don’t be surprised if, during your visit to Southern Pines, you spot a furry friend relaxing in her office or strolling through the halls alongside her.
With Jules, one thing is certain: both residents and their beloved pets are always warmly welcomed.
Mandy Mullins, LPN – Health & Wellness Director
Mandy Mullins is a dedicated Health and Wellness Director with more than 16 years of experience in senior living. She is passionate about delivering compassionate, resident-centered care and creating an environment where residents feel safe, valued, and supported every day.
Throughout her career, Mandy has demonstrated strong leadership in team development, regulatory compliance, and clinical oversight. She is committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, dignity, and quality of life while fostering meaningful relationships with residents, families, and team members. Her hands-on leadership style and clear communication help cultivate a positive workplace culture where staff feel empowered and residents can truly thrive.
Mandy is a Licensed Practical Nurse who actively pursues continuing education to remain current with best practices in senior care. Her dedication to professional growth reflects her commitment to excellence in service and outcomes.
Outside of her professional role, Mandy enjoys spending time with her family — especially her children, Haley and Colton, and her grandson, Grayson. She also loves relaxing with her two dogs and fishing with her fiancé, Mark. Mandy’s well-rounded approach to life and leadership shines through in the compassionate care she provides each day.
Aletha Young – Life Enrichment Director
Aletha Young has proudly served as the Life Enrichment Director at Southern Pines for nearly seven years. She is deeply passionate about creating meaningful, engaging experiences that bring purpose and joy to residents each day. Aletha believes that life enrichment is about more than activities — it’s about connection, dignity, and helping every resident continue to live a full and vibrant life.
With a heart for service and a natural ability to build relationships, Aletha designs programs that nurture social engagement, spiritual wellness, physical activity, and personal fulfillment. Her energy and dedication help create a warm, uplifting environment where residents feel valued and inspired.
Family is at the center of Aletha’s life. She is the proud mother of two daughters, one son, and a stepdaughter, and she is blessed with eight grandchildren who bring her endless joy.
Outside of work, Aletha enjoys attending church, participating in community activities in Metcalfe, exercising, bicycling, working in her yard, and spending cherished time with her family. By her side is her loyal four-legged best friend, Georgia, who completes her happy and fulfilling life.
Juan Perez Zetina – Environmental Services Director
Juan Perez Zetina serves as the Environmental Services Director at Southern Pines Senior Living, a role he has proudly held for the past two and a half years. In this position, he oversees all environmental services operations with a strong focus on safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and resident satisfaction.
With more than seven years of experience in senior living and over ten years in the facilities industry, Juan brings a depth of operational expertise and a commitment to excellence. He is dedicated to maintaining clean, safe, and well-maintained environments that support both exceptional care standards and overall community well-being. His proactive leadership style ensures that residents, families, and team members experience a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere every day.
Juan believes that a well-maintained environment plays a critical role in resident dignity, health, and quality of life. His attention to detail and commitment to compliance help ensure the community consistently meets and exceeds operational standards.
Outside of work, Juan enjoys spending quality time with his family, relaxing at the beach, and caring for his family’s pet mini pigs, Cookie and Cinnamon, who bring joy and balance to his life.
Wendy Dubose – Resident Care Coordinator
Wendy is a dedicated Assisted Living Manager with a strong passion for delivering compassionate, resident-centered care. With over 12 years of experience in senior living, she brings extensive expertise in team leadership, regulatory compliance, and fostering an environment where residents feel safe, valued, and supported.
Throughout her career, Wendy has remained committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, dignity, and quality of life. She believes that exceptional care begins with a positive workplace culture and a team that feels empowered and appreciated. Her hands-on leadership style and strong communication skills allow her to build meaningful relationships with residents, families, and staff alike.
Wendy holds her CMA certification and continually pursues professional development to stay current with best practices in senior care. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, reflecting on her well-rounded approach to both leadership and life.
Andres Valencia Abeja, MBA – Business Office Manager
Andres Valencia Abeja serves as Business Office Manager with a passion for creating a safe, welcoming environment for residents, families, and team members. He is committed to helping residents live with dignity while building compassionate, accountable teams that deliver exceptional care.
With experience in senior living and healthcare operations, Andres specializes in team leadership, regulatory compliance, and fostering a positive workplace culture. He believes exceptional care starts with empowered team members who feel valued and supported. Known for his strong communication and hands-on leadership style, he works collaboratively to maintain the highest standards of quality and service.
Andres holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and an MBA, along with a Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification, and is currently pursuing his SHRM certification.
Outside of work, he enjoys staying active through pickleball, semi-professional soccer, and golf — bringing the same energy, teamwork, and discipline to his leadership role each day.
